The sea has been a profound influence on my work since childhood. Growing up, I spent countless days accompanying my father on his vessels around our island waters. These maritime experiences formed lasting impressions that continue to shape my creative vision today. When I create art, I’m translating these formative memories into tangible expressions.
In 2007, I was awarded a scholarship to study for one month in Sciacca, Sicily, after my design was selected as the most outstanding ceramic creation in the Interreg IIIA MedPot Project. During this residency, I had the privilege of working with the late distinguished artist Cosimo Barna, whose mentorship was instrumental in refining my approach to marine motifs, particularly my fish and prawn concepts.
Prawns, shrimps, and various other sea creatures serve as the central subjects throughout my body of work. My creative process involves exploring these marine forms and interpreting them through both two-dimensional paintings and three-dimensional sculptures, presented across diverse mediums and surfaces.
The collection displayed in this exhibition represents the evolution of my artistic development since 2007, each piece embodying a connection to my enduring relationship with the sea.
